The source of your greatest pleasure

is often the source of your greatest pain

You are taken on a high

By some random person, at some random time

You let your guard down

You’re without care

You feel light as air

Gravity doesn’t even exist

Then after days, weeks, even months

Reality strikes and gravity surprises you

You free fall from that high point

of perpetual bliss, and you find that

your ceiling is quickly morphing into  a floor

Your high point suddenly becomes

a dark deep hole you can’t climb out of

You always thought there was significant distance

between up and down

but like the thin line between

love and hate

joy and sorrow

life and death

It is fragile

A simple footstep makes a difference

A single action or non action

A single day, a single minute

and your left agonizing

over the whys and hows

Tormented by the what was to be

and the what was.

What are some words that just make you smile?

The word crep (good looking trainers, likely to be wanted by rudeboys) just cracks me up. there are also other really silly words that are in the Jamaican creole that have been dormant for years and when I hear them now randomly, I just have to laugh and say how did they come up with that?

When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles or turn on the flashlight? How many of each do you own?

I keep a flashlight in a drawer beside my bed, I also usually have a flashlight app on my phone so I quickly turn on whichever flashlights to use to aid me to locate candles. I have possibly two real flashlights and packs of candles around my house.

What is the longest book you ever read?

I studied literature all throughout high school and also in college and have read so many books but I can’t really say which was the longest. I kinda hated King Henry IV, so I would say that’s the longest book I have read though its really a small book. I don’t usually go for books with too many pages or too small a print so I don’t force myself to read long books.

So you win a pet monkey at a fair, but this isn’t just any old monkey. It can do one trick for you whenever you want from getting a pop out of the fridge to washing your hair. What would be the trick?

Teleportation. I would love to move from one place to somewhere more relaxing without all the effort of travelling and without having arrange time off, air fear etc. basically avoid those things that make travelling unattainable for many.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that I have come to realize that I was being completely deceived by someone who I had complete faith and trust in. I am thankful that I got baptized and I am looking forward  to restoring myself from the pain of deception and to walking with God through faith and everything else that comes with a spiritual journey.

* I am still unable to follow up posting these weekly at this point, but I had some tie and decided to Jump in on this one.

Do you believe in extraterrestrials or life on other planets?

I have always struggled with the thought of there being extra terrestrial creatures out there mostly because I am a huge “scardy” cat and they have always been portrayed in movies as evil villains trying to come to earth to wipe us out. I have always had to convince myself that there is no other life out there because the bible would have mentioned it. This of course, was my attempt to sooth myself to sleep at nights. Even as an adult, if a scary movie is too graphic, I still get scared and have to keep the lights on. Crazy right?

What type of pet or pets do you not want to have?

I hate cats. I think I may be able to tolerate other kinds of pets but cats I loathe. I have a Dog, cuz I’m a dog person and growing up wit had many variations of pets but we have never had cats.  I hate cats because of their temperaments and because they stink and get hair all over the place.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

I would probably be a mixture of colors, because I do think I have split personalities. Not clinically split though.

What type of transportation would you be? Why?

I would definitely be a motor cycle for two reasons. first, they get you where you want to go quickly. I hate traffic and I hate lines. I went to college for three years and endured great hate because I would always cut in the front of the line at the cafeteria and if there was a day where I couldn’t bother to cut in line, I wouldn’t bother to have my meal, which was already paid for, at the cafeteria. i would go and buy food somewhere where I didn’t have to deal with a line. So similarly, a motor cycle does not have to line up in traffic, they just easily manoeuvre through and get on their way.

secondly, motor cycles exudes romance. They are  always  motifs in romantic films and there’s just something awesome about clinging to a sexy muscular bike rider guy in a tough leather jacket while the wind blows through your hair. Oh and my childhood crush was Lorenzo Lamas, who rode a motorcycle in the series Renegade.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that a person very close to me who met in a car accident has completed surgery successfully and is recovering  and I am looking forward to see the love of my life next week.

Side Note: sorry for missing a couple weeks of share your world. I have been really busy with school etc. but I will definitely find some time to go back and reply to them.

Would you prefer a reading nook or an art, craft, photography studio?

I have bought a kindle reader and a rarely use it for reading, so I guess I would probably prefer a photography studio but I would also need all the equipment for it. Then I would have to read on the kindle, which  I never use, how to actually make good use of a photography studio. I do take a good picture every once in a while so maybe I could develop that.

Would you prefer the TV in the living room or another room?

I like having a TV in my living room and in my bedroom. I use the television to sooth me to sleep sometimes, sometimes it prevents me from sleeping. The living room TV is for when I have guests or when I have spent too much time in my room and want to pay my living room some attention.

What color would you like your bedroom to be?

I like earth colors so one of the following combinations would do.

Would you prefer a one floor house or multiple levels?

I would definitely want a house that has a balcony, so  at least two floors

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that I lived through last week and I am hoping for some smiles for this week.

Would you rather be given $10,000 for your own use or $100,000 to give anonymously to strangers?

I would rather get both. I could really use $10,000,00 at this point but for the one hundred thousand dollars, giving it to random strangers may not be the best idea because I am sure with a little research I could find people who could really use such a cash boost to make a real difference in their lives.

When you’re 90 years old, what will matter most to you?

Truthfully, I don’t wish to live till I am 90 yrs old so I hope not to be worried about anything then. But if I should live till I’m that old, the presence of my family would matter most to me. I would hope that I had lived a life of kindness so that my family wouldn’t consider it a burden to be around me but would want to treasure the last bit of time they have with me.

Candy factories of the entire world have become one and will now be making only one kind of candy. Which kind, if you were calling the shots?

Gummy anything,  gummy bears, worms, fruit treats etc.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

I usually keep a small umbrella in my purse so just in case I am out and it starts raining I can still go about my business without having to spend money that I am not prepared to. this reminds me, I used my umbrella on Tuesday and I haven’tdried it, crap! Its gonna rust. Guess I’ll be buying a new umbrella then.

Do you prefer eating the frosting of the cake first?

I am not a fan of pastries in general but if I am having cake with frosting, I tend not to eat the frosting. I really don’t like sweats.

A day spent together

Talking, laughing, happy

I still remember his smile

The intensity of his eyes

It’s captivating

I’ve longed for someone

Young, level headed

My nerves overtake me

Cripple me, I open my mouth

But utter nothing

I simply smile, and remain

I see him time and time again

But I’m shackled

By ghosts of experiences past

The fear is too strong

So each day passes by

And I know a time will come

When I shall see him no more

But I still don’t have the courage

To let him know how I feel

So I still remain

Share Your World – 2014 Week 6

Have you watched or plan to watch any of the 2014 Winter Olympics?

Before this question I didn’t even know that the Winter Olympics had started. In my defense, I live in a tropical country (no snow) and like many Jamaicans I have no particular interest in the Winter Olympic Games.

What is your favorite winter Olympic event? Would you ever want to be an expert in that sport?

Though I don’t keep up with the sport, I must say that I really do enjoy watching figure skating. I love the beauty and freedom that those athletes showcase when they’re on the ice. I like the preciseness, the grace and skill that the sport requires. I would love to learn to skate on ice, maybe not expertly but for recreation.

Have you ever met an Olympic Athlete?

I have met several Olympic athletes While in college, I was a part of the track team (I throw the javelin) and our training included going to the national stadium early in the mornings which is the time that our Olympic athletes train. So I have met, Usain Bolt, Kaliese Spencer, Sherone Simpson and others. I have not met an international Olympic athlete however.

Do you have a favorite athlete? Name sport.

I don’t have a favorite any kind of celebrity. I’m happy with any athlete who does his or her best to represent his or her country.

What is your favorite exercise or sport? Is there a reason?

I don’t have a favorite sport but I do like watching Track and Field. Track and Field is a big deal in Jamaica much like football is a big deal in America, so you probably won’t meet a Jamaican who doesn’t take a keen interest in the sport.

The reason for liking Track and Field so much is because of the success that we have achieved internationally and because of the unity it brings to the nation when our athletes compete. Also nothing beats the rush that we get from seeing our athletes dominating tracks.

I’ll also take this opportunity to send a shout out to Jamaica’s second ever Bobsled Team on qualifying for the Winter Olympic Games.

Being Black Re-Interpreted

This post has been inspired by a topic that I see being constantly discussed on YouTube but it was particularly inspired by this documentary that I recently watched.

So after watching this, I got into my head and came up with this;

What does it mean to be Black?

Being Black isn’t a convenience

It isn’t about choosing Black because

your not accepted by any other

Being Black isn’t an after thought

It is being proud of the skin you’re in

Its about those strong vibrations

in your heart

Being Black is about having soul

Its about the music of your spirit

Its about embracing each tiny

curl, and kink in your big Afro

Being Black is big, its not about

being relaxed to be appropriate

Its not about identifying all your additives

from White to Jew to Pacific Islander

then to African

Being black is about stating that your African

Being Black is about knowing and accepting

the colour of your skin, your brown eyes, the width of your nose

the thickness of your lips,

and the rhythm of your soul, your black soul

Being Black is about empowering and ridding the mind

of a social construct which perpetuates Black as no good

Black as evil, or corrupted

Black is the presence of everything

because Black embodies the world

Being Black isn’t  be a convenience

Black is so much more

for those who don’t have the option of

Black is strength, Black is beauty, black is power

Black is rising from years of being under.

If you had a choice to live anywhere would be your preference salt water beaches, forest, fresh water lakes, hot tub, ski resort or desert?

I am torn between salt water beaches and fresh water lakes for two reasons, both can be a source of food and entertainment but if I had to think about drinking water then the lake would be optimal but if drinking water isn’t an issue then definitely the beach.

What was your favorite toy as a child  . . . and now?

I didn’t have many toys growing up but I really can’t remember not having a skipping rope. My skipping rope brought much joy for my friends and I. At present,  I cant say I have a toy but my electronic gadgets are quite entertaining if they count as toys.

Which do you prefer sweet, salty or both at the same time?

Neither, ever since I was a child I never cared for sweets  to this day. I generally use little to no salt in meals that I prepare which causes me to sometimes lack sodium. I don’t even think I have ever had anything that was sweet and salty at the same time.

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

Jamaica is a tropical country so we don’t even have winters. The temperature is never low enough to bring snow and I have never traveled outside  the country. I’m not a fan of the cold whether when it actually gets chilly in Jamaica, which is nothing compared to the winters in countries that do get snow. However, I do wish to experience a snowy Christmas because my vicarious experience says that it is awesome.
